Sarah Johnson’s new release exudes confidence & adds a little spice to her musical repertoire.

What do you hope people feel listening to this song?

Confidence. Worthiness. Sassiness. FUN.

What is the message of “Mess You Up Good”?

In a playful way, this song is saying, “Watch out, you’re gonna fall in love with me!” Everything from the lyrics to the music exudes confidence and a little sass.

In the dating world, it’s easy to have a “pick me” attitude when you go out - just hoping someone will notice or talk to you. This song hopefully serves as a little pep talk to walk in a room with confidence and self assurance!

Is that why you declared this summer “The Summer of Confidence” as part of your song promotion?

Exactly. I always want my music to serve a higher purpose. Releasing this song is taking some extra confidence, so I am encouraging my fans and followers to have THEIR summer of confidence to be bold, try new things, adopt a fresh attitude, and to join me in this journey to live with confidence and boldness.

Are you speaking from personal experience?

Of course. All my songwriting is from personal growth and experience. I wrote this song when I wasn’t feeling confident and sexy, but wanted to feel that way. So I wrote it as a self-pep talk.

Tell us about the recording process.

Recording “Mess You Up Good” was a blast. I wrote it on an acoustic guitar but I had a vision for the rock / grunge sound - and the three beats that hit before the chorus.

Charley Wiles (producer) immediately caught the vision and we found a groove quickly. In the studio, it was so much fun to hear the guys transform into the edgy, rock final version.

Huge props to the musicians adding their own creative touches like Clint dropping the half beats on the last chorus - and Charley and Taylor Nix (BGV’s) orchestrating amazing background vocal melodies. This song is absolutely an embodiment of “teamwork makes the dreamwork.”

Dallas’ finest talent came together for this song:

Producer/ Mix / Lead Guitar: Charley Wiles
Studio: Echo Lab
Keys: Parker Twomey
Bass: Benjamin Barajas
Drums: Clint Kirby
BGV: Taylor Nix
